Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale wanted for The Stand

August 23, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Now that Warner Bros. is pushing ahead with The Stand under director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), we should expect to hear plenty of casting news on the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s post-apocalyptic epic over the coming months, and it appears that the director has already identified the man he wants to play the antagonist, Randall Flagg.

According to Deadline, Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) is being coveted to play The Man in Black, who was played by Jamie Sheridan in the original TV miniseries. The personification of evil, Flagg is the main villain of The Stand, and subsequently appeared in King’s books The Eyes of the Dragon and Hearts in Atlantis (possibly), as well as The Dark Tower.

Update: Josh Boone has taken to Twitter to respond to the story, stating that McConaughey is actually wanted for the role of Stu Redman, while Christian Bale (American Hustle) is his preference for the role of Randall Flagg. Would you like to see McConaughey and Bale joining the cast? Let us know your thoughts…
