Octorock: The Zelda Metal EP pays tribute to Legend of Zelda

November 17, 2017 by Andrew Newton

For a true fan of any franchise it is about more than just playing every game, it’s about admiring the artwork, a devotion to the characters and a love for the soundtracks and tributes.  With that said, fans of The Legend of Zelda series will be excited to hear that Seattle-based videogame music publisher, Materia Collective, have released Octorock: The Zelda Metal EP, a collection of music from several Zelda games by arranger and guitarist Joel Kent.

Octorock: The Zelda Metal EP features arrangements from Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Wind Waker, and Skyward Sword and captures some of the greatest moments from those games with excellent guitar riffs and shredding.

The track list for Octorock: The Zelda Metal EP is:

01. The Lost Woods (Ocarina of Time)
02. Dragon Roost Island (Wind Waker)
03. Stone Tower (Majora’s Mask)
04. Ballad of the Sky Goddess (Skyward Sword)

“I’ve been a huge Zelda nerd for as long as I’ve been able to hold a controller,” reflects arranger Joel Kent, “And I still remember my first experience with the series: watching the full moon rise over Hyrule Field during the opening cinematic of Ocarina of Time. When I start up the game and hear those opening chords it still gives me chills and probably always will. Journeying through the various titles in the series to Koji Kondo’s melodies had as much an impression on me growing up as listening to my Dad’s classic rock albums.”

Octorock: The Zelda Metal EP is available now on Bandcamp, iTunes and Spotify.
