Exclusive: Dan Stevens on working with director Gareth Evans on Apostle

November 28, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Ahead of this week’s release of The Man Who Invented Christmas, Flickering Myth’s Thomas Harris caught up with actor Dan Stevens to discuss his role as Charles Dickens in the new film. However, talk also shifted to Stevens’ next project, Apostle, which sees him teaming up with “the Welsh Tarantino” Gareth Evans.

“I can tell you that there is a bit of action in there,” replied Stevens when asked if the film will see him stretching his action chops. “It’s not as relentlessly action packed as The Raid 3 might be. A lot of people keep asking me, ‘is it The Raid 3 in disguise?’ I’d love it to be. It’s not. It’s really, I hope, a pretty special work. It was a really unique experience, very, very tough shoot, but Gareth Evans is a wonderful, wonderful filmmaker – the Welsh Tarantino – he’s quite something. And I’m very excited. I’m excited to see this Gangs of London thing he’s got going on that’s just been announced. He’s been working on that for a bit, and that’s gonna be very cool and probably full of action and violence I’m sure. I mean, nobody sells violence right like now right him, he’s very, very gifted like that, so yeah, next year we’ll see.”

Watch Stevens’ comments below, and be sure to check back tomorrow for our full interview on The Man Who Invented Christmas…

The year is 1905. Thomas Richardson travels to a remote island to rescue his sister after she’s kidnapped by a mysterious religious cult demanding a ransom for her safe return. It soon becomes clear that the cult will regret the day it baited this man, as he digs deeper and deeper into the secrets and lies upon which the commune is built.

Apostle is slated for release in 2018 and sees Dan Stevens starring alongside Michael Sheen, Lucy Boynton, Mark Lewis Jones, Bill Milner, Kristine Froseth, and Paul Higgins.
