Superman’s red trunks return in Action Comics #1000

January 19, 2018 by Gary Collinson

This April, Action Comics celebrates an astonishing milestone as it reaches its 1000th issue, in this, its 80th year. And as you’d expect, DC Comics is pulling out all of the stops in celebration of the landmark issue, and thanks to Entertainment Weekly we’ve got a look at Jim Lee’s cover to the issue, which sees the return of Superman’s classic red trunks.

“Action Comics #1000 represents a watershed moment in the history of not just comic books, but entertainment, literature, and pop culture,” said Lee. “There’s no better way to celebrate Superman’s enduring popularity than to give him a look that combines some new accents with the most iconic feature of his classic design.”

“The one-thousandth issue of Action Comics is an incredible milestone in pop culture and a testament to the vision of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster,” added DC publisher Dan DiDio. “Without this book, along with Siegel and Shuster’s fertile imaginations and boundless creativity, the superhero’s place in literature may have been wildly different, if not altogether nonexistent.”

Action Comics #1000 is set to feature an assortment of Superman stories from various big name creators, including the very first DC tale from Brian Michael Bendis, as well as Marv Wolfman, Geoff Johns, Olivier Coipel, Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason, Dan Jurgens, Paul Dini, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, Tom King, Clay Mann, Jordie Bellaire, Brad Meltzer, John Cassaday, Laura Martin, Louise Simonson, Jerry Ordway, Scott Snyder, Tim Sale, and Superman: The Movie director Richard Donner.

Action Comics #1000 goes on sale on April 18th.
