Disney announces live-action Kim Possible movie

February 11, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Disney has announced that it is developing a live-action adaptation of its hit animated series Kim Possible, which is being produced as a Disney Channel Original Movie from a script by Emmy Award-winning creators Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley along with Josh Cagan (The DUFF). On the Lot finalists Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovsky are set to direct and casting is now underway.

“Mark and Bob created an enduring character and kids all over the world found a friend in her, an average girl who just happens to spend her off-school hours thwarting evil villains,” said Adam Bonnett, executive vice president of original programming at Disney Channels Worldwide. “Although Kim Possible ‘can do anything,’ kids and tweens found that this animated redhead was just like them. As we embark on the fun challenge of making Kim and Ron fully dimensional, I’m thrilled to be working again with Mark and Bob and to welcome the addition of a dynamic creative team – Josh, Zanne, Adam and Zach – into a world where anything is indeed possible.”

Kim Possible launched in 2002 and ran for 87 episodes across four seasons on The Disney Channel. The show revolved around the titular character, a teenager who fights crime with her friend Ron Stoppable, ten-year-old computer whizz Wade and Ron’s pet rate Rufus, whilst dealing with everyday issues associated with adolescence. The series received a Primetime Emmy Award, as well as seven Daytime Emmys, winning one for Outstanding Sound Mixing in 2005.
