Having tore up the box office with just shy of $1.2 billion worldwide, Marvel’s Black Panther has now topped Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi to become the most-tweeted about movie of all time.
According to Twitter, Black Panther has been mentioned over 35 million times in total, with popular hashtags including #BlackPanther, #Wakanda and #WakandaForever. The most shared post came from Kendrick Lamar when he revealed the soundtrack, with over 240,000 retweets, followed by Michelle Obama’s endorsement of the film, which scored almost 140,000 retweets.
In addition to its box office and social media success, Black Panther also holds a 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and as you’d expect, a sequel has been confirmed, with early story plans already in place.

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returnsohome to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.
