True Detective season 3 changes up directors due to scheduling conflicts

April 1, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Deadline is reporting that the third season of HBO and Nic Pizzolatto’s True Detective has undergone a change of directors, with Daniel Sackheim coming in to replace Blue Ruin and Green Room’s Jeremy Saulnier.

“Director and executive producer Jeremy Saulnier has completed the first two episodes of True Detective Season 3 and will be departing the production due to scheduling issues,” reads a statement from HBO. “Daniel Sackheim has come on board as a director and executive producer for the series alongside series creator and director Nic Pizzolatto.”

Sackheim has extensive TV credits, directing episodes of The First, Ozark, Better Call Saul, The Man in the High Castle, Fear the Walking Dead and Game of Thrones.

The third season of True Detective is slated to air on HBO in 2019 and will tell the story of a macabre crime relating to missing children in the heart of the Ozarks, with the case spanning decades and playing out over three decades.

Featuring in the cast are Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Stephen Dorff (Blade), Scoot McNairy (Godless), Mamie Gummer (Side Effects), Ray Fisher (Justice League), Michael Greyeyes (Fear the Walking Dead), Jon Tenney (The Closer), Rhys Wakefield (The Purge), Sarah Gadon (Alias Grace), Emily Nelson (Code Black), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why) and Michael Graziadei (Good Girls Revolt).
