Superman boldly goes where few toys have gone before

November 4, 2014 by Gary Collinson

On April 18th, 1938, Superman made his first appearance in the pages of Action Comics #1, with creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster launching the concept of the superhero, as well as a pop culture icon and one of the most endearing characters of the 20th and 21st centuries. So, it’s only fitting that Superman becomes the first superhero in space – in action figure form, at least – with La Scatola dei Giocattoli, Mattel Italy, RS Components, Panasonic and Warner Bros. organising a special mission to take Superman up into space…

Orangised as part of ‘Il viaggio dei Giocattoli’ – a project designed to take Mattel’s most famous toys around the world – the Superman mission has been designed to recreate Felix Baumgartner’s daredevil leap from space, with a special spaceship made with a capsule and weather balloon having flown a Superman action figure to the edge of space, before the Man of Steel made his own leap, arriving safe and sound back on Earth. Check out a video of the launch here…

And here’s some images from the mission…

For more information and technical details about the mission, be sure to visit the official website, as well as the social media channels on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google+ and YouTube.
