Neil Gaiman gives Sandman movie update

October 18, 2014 by James Garcia

Of all the DC Comics movies announced last week, one in-development project was noticeably absent: the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s seminal and beloved comic Sandman. The last we heard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was working on the film with Man of Steel scribe David S. Goyer and Gaiman himself, with Skins and This is England scribe Jack Thorne on scripting duties.

Sandman‘s omission from the DC announcement raised some eyebrows, and left fans worried that the project had (once again) fallen off the rails. Luckily, that doesn’t appear to be the case. According to Gaiman himself, Sandman wasn’t included in the DC announcement because it’s not technically a DC property…

“It’s not a DC Comics film. It’s a Vertigo film. That’s a different slate of films, and a different announcement.”

So, fret not, Sandman fans! The film is still very much in the works, and will be officially announced in due time. My one question is, what does he mean by different slate of films? Does that mean there are other Vertigo projects in the works yet to be announced? Only time will tell…
