Destiny is the largest new IP launch in history

November 5, 2014 by Tom Powter

During their earnings call,  Activision revealed that Destiny is not only the largest launch for a new franchise in history,  but it was also in the top ten video game launches of all time.

Activision reported record results for their third quarter and Destiny was likely to be a massive part of that. The game earned $500 million USD in generated revenue.

Expansion content for Destiny is on the way in the form of DLC packs, the first one being The Dark Below, which launches in December.

During the investors call, Activision also revealed that Bungie are hard at work on their next full release, a sequel to Destiny. Destiny has 9.5 million registered players – so it’s very impressive numbers all round for Bungie’s newest science fiction game.

However, critical reception of Destiny hasn’t been as positive,  with most critics attacking the serious lack of real narrative and the overall repetitiveness of the game play.
