Jared Leto has sworn to keep his mouth shut over Joker rumours for Suicide Squad

November 30, 2014 by Gary Collinson

With The Joker set to feature as part of Warner Bros. and director David Ayer’s (Fury) DC supervillain ensemble Suicide Squad, there’s been persistent rumours that Oscar winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) will follow in Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger’s footsteps by portraying the Clown Prince of Crime on the big screen.

Last week, Leto responded to the rumours by referring to the first rule of Fight Club, and now during a piece over at The Hollywood Reporter, the Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman has confirmed that he is set for a return to acting, although all he would offer in the way of comment on the Joker rumours was that “I’ve sworn to keep my mouth shut.”

So, a no comment from Leto, which will no doubt only add to the speculation that the role is his, although in fairness a denial would have done the same, given how adamantly Jason Momoa denied his Aquaman casting right up to the moment in was made official.

Suicide Squad will go into production next year ahead of a release on August 5th 2016. Jesse Eisenberg will reportedly reprise the role of Lex Luthor from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while other actors linked to the film include Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn and Jai Courtney (Divergent) as Deadshot, as well as Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) and Will Smith (After Earth) for unspecified roles.
