Christian Bale, Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling to team for The Big Short

January 14, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Variety reports that Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, Knight of Cups), Brad Pitt (Fury, Se7en) and Ryan Gosling (Drive, The Place Beyond The Pines) are to add their A-list status (and charm) to new drama The Big Short, an adaptation of Moneyball writer Michael Lewis’ bestseller.

Here’s the book synopsis:

The real story of the crash began in bizarre feeder markets where the sun doesn’t shine and the SEC doesn’t dare, or bother, to tread: the bond and real estate derivative markets where geeks invent impenetrable securities to profit from the misery of lower–and middle–class Americans who can’t pay their debts. The smart people who understood what was or might be happening were paralyzed by hope and fear; in any case, they weren’t talking.

The project has been set up with Paramount Pictures, with Pitt’s Oscar-Winning company Plan B (12 Years A Slave) producing. The surprise addition to the mix is Anchorman director and Ant-Man co-writer Adam McKay both writing and directing the film, which will see the filmmaker taking a hiatus from his work in comedy, and in particular Will Ferrell, to take on the film.

No release date is set yet, but expect it to arrive in 2016.
