Will Smith and Margot Robbie talk Tom Hardy leaving Suicide Squad

February 11, 2015 by admin

It was announced last month that Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) had left David Ayer’s Suicide Squad due to scheduling issues thanks to the promotional tour of Mad Max: Fury Road.

In an interview to promote their new movie Focus, Suicide Squad cast members Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Will Smith (Deadshot) were asked about Hardy leaving the project and how the project is going without a replacement for him.

“We’ve still got to get it right,” Smith told USA Today.

“This happens all the time,” Robbie added. “People act like, ‘Oh my god, the movie must be ending!’ It’s just the deal with movies.”

When asked why it’s taken so long to find a replacement, Smith theorizes that its due to David Ayer handing in his script just before Christmas. “What happens is Hollywood shuts down,” Smith says. “But he was still working and he wanted to [start shooting] April 13th. So it takes a couple weeks to gear back up at the top of the year and people have taken [other] movies. He’s moving really quickly.”

Robbie also added about the responsibilities of taking on these roles saying, “a lot of the characters haven’t been portrayed before so it’s a pretty big undertaking,” she said. “And it’s a big undertaking for the people who are going to play the characters who have been played, like the Joker (Jared Leto). It’s big shoes to fill.”

Suicide Squad is set for release in April 2016 with a cast that also includes Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) as Captain Boomerang and Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder) as Amanda Waller.
