The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel retains top spot at the UK box office

UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 6th March to Sunday 8th March 2015…

Comedy sequel The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel has retained top spot at the UK box office, with the film pulling in £1.96 million in its second weekend to comfortably see off the competition, while Focus climbed to second place ahead of Fifty Shades of Grey.

It was a disappointing weekend for the big new releases, with Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie pulling in just £1,015,058, less than half that of the director’s two previous efforts District 9 and Elysium, to take fourth. Vince Vaughn comedy Unfinished Business disappointed with £394,177 down in ninth, one place behind fellow newcomer Still Alice, which earned £401,565 from a fifth of the screens.

6. Shaun the Sheep Movie – £611,005 weekend (5 weeks)
7. Kingsman: The Secret Service – £450,947 weekend (6 weeks)
8. Still Alice – £401,565 weekend (New)
9. Unfinished Business – £394,177 weekend (New)
10. It Follows – £229,927 weekend (2 weeks)

The big release this week is the Liam Neeson action thriller Run All Night (cert. 12A), while the rest of Friday’s newcomers include X+Y (cert. 12A), Suite Francaise (cert. 15) and My Name Is Salt (cert. U), along with a limited reissue of Far From the Madding Crowd (cert. U).
