More Spider-Man casting rumours surface

March 9, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Following the big Spider-Man news last month, we’ve heard plenty of speculation about Sony and Marvel’s plans for the wall-crawler. Several actors have been said to be in contention for the role, while it’s also been reported that Drew Goddard reportedly set to write and direct The Spectacular Spider-Man for release in 2017.

Well, today has brought more rumours on the Spider-Man casting front, with a tweet from former EastEnders star Sam Strike about landing a role in a major U.S. blockbuster leading several sites to report that he may be set to succeed Andrew Garfield as the wall-crawler.

As it happens, rumour specialists Latino-Review have debunked the story, stating that he’s “probably got cast” in X-Men: Apocalypse or Deadpool, and that Sony and Marvel are still actively reading teen actors to play a fifteen-year-old Spider-Man.

UPDATE: Well, it turns out he’s not Spider-Man, and he’s not in X-Men: Apocalypse or Deadpool either, as The Wrap has revealed that Strike has actually been cast as Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel.

It’s pretty clear that any and all Spider-Man casting reports are just guesswork at this point, but with Captain America: Civil War set to start shooting next month and Spidey expected to make his MCU debut in that film, hopefully we won’t have to suffer through much more speculation before we get an official announcement.
