Vincent D’Onofrio teases plenty of surprises in Daredevil and whether he’ll be in AKA Jessica Jones and Luke Cage

We’re now less than a month from the debut of Daredevil on Netflix and the anticipation is starting to heat up. One person who is incredibly excited is Vincent D’Onofrio (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), who will be playing Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin in the series.

“I tweeted out the other day that I watch these trailers and they make me so proud of all the work that we did,” D’Onofio told Uproxx in a very passionate interview. “But, at the same time, there’s so much that you guys don’t know what you’re going to get. There’s so much in our show. And there’s so much they’re not giving away. I mean, it gets so intense and so emotional. It’s really quite something. It goes to places you would never think it goes because of what Jeph Loeb and Steven DeKnight wanted to do. It really does.”

“Under the umbrella of Netflix, they’re very supportive, and it’s not like doing a TV series at all. It’s like doing a 13-hour film,” he continues. “So, I think that lends itself to being able to be much more specific and take your time in telling this long story. Now, having said that, they at the same time have to deliver a superhero aspect – a Marvel aspect to it – which, as we all know, is so dynamic and cool. So, that was the trick, to deliver the dynamic kind of Marvel superhero show and, at the same time, make it a serial that’s interesting and emotional and a real story. I mean, I could go on about it, but everybody can judge it for themselves – but, in my opinion, everybody was firing on all cylinders and just doing a great job.”

As well as confirming that Daredevil will indeed be taking part in the same universe as Iron Man, Thor and Captain America (and joking he’s already played Thor briefly), he was asked if we’ll be seeing Wilson Fisk in A.K.A. Jessica Jones or Luke Cage. “I actually have no idea,” he answered. “Marvel doesn’t tell you about their plans, they just tell you how happy they are with you and give you all of this creative freedom and stuff. But, the one thing they keep secret is what their plans are. They tell you eventually, but not while it’s all still in the planning stage. They keep it to themselves. I actually have no idea.”

Marvel’s Daredevil is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.

Daredevil sees Charlie Cox (Stardust) leading the cast as Matt Murdock/Daredevil alongside Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) as Karen Page, Elden Henson (The Butterfly Effect) as Foggy Nelson, Vincent D’Onofrio (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) as the Kingpin, Scott Glenn (The Silence of the Lambs) as Stick, Rosario Dawson (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) as Claire Temple / Night Nurse, Toby Moore (John Wick) as Wesley, Ayelet Zurer (Man of Steel) as Vanessa, Vondie Curtis-Hall (Chicago Hope) as Ben Urich and Bob Gunton (The Shawshank Redemption) as Leland Owlsley / The Owl, Rob Morgan (Person of Interest) as Turk Barrett, Matt Gerald (Dexter) as Melvin Potter / The Gladiator, Peter Shinkoda (Falling Skies) as Nobu, Wai Ching Ho (Blue Bloods) as Madame Gao, Nikolai Nikolaeff (Sea Patrol) as Vladimir and Gideon Emery (How to Train Your Dragon 2) as Anatoly.
