Christoph Waltz once again denies playing Bond villain Blofeld in Spectre

April 8, 2015 by Thomas Roach

It seems that Christoph Waltz is sticking to his story. On the very day that the cast for Spectre was officially unveiled, actor Christoph Waltz revealed that his character was called Franz Oberhauser, despite many believing he would play the classic Bond villain Blofeld. Since then he has denied playing Blofeld several times, but since the release of the first teaser trailer many fans are sure that his character is indeed super spy’s arch nemesis.

In an interview with GQ, Waltz was once again asked if he is playing Blofeld to which he responded, “That is absolutely untrue. That rumour started on the Internet, and the Internet is a pest. The name of my character is Franz Oberhauser.”

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time an actor has lied to cover up their role. Marion Cotillard repeatedly denied playing Talia Al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises, as did Benedict Cumberbatch with regards to his role as Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness, so we’ll just have to wait and see whether Waltz is doing the same here, or if he’s actually telling the truth.

Spectre is set for release in the UK on October 23rd in the UK and November 6th in the States. The film sees Sam Mendes (Skyfall) directing Bond veterans Daniel Craig as James Bond, Rory Kinnear as Tanner, Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny, Ralph Fiennes as M and Jesper Christensen as Mr. White, alongside franchise newcomers Andrew Scott (Pride) as Denbigh, Lea Seydoux (Blue is the Warmest Colour) as Madeleine Swann, Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Mr. Hinx, Monica Bellucci (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) as Lucia Sciarra, Stephanie Sigman (The Bridge) as Estrella and Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) as Oberhauser.
