A LEGO Movie reboot is in the works from The Lost City directors

July 22, 2023 by EJ Moreno

If you loved The LEGO Movie, prepare for another entry – though this won’t follow the story set up in the previous two LEGO films from Warner Bros. after Universal picked up the movie license from The LEGO Group back in 2020.

In a new report from Variety, insiders have the Nee brothers currently set up with Universal to develop a new hybrid live-action/animation film around the LEGO franchise. Aaron and Adam Nee are best known for their 2022 film, The Lost City, which starred Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. The news on their LEGO movie project comes shortly after Netflix officially canned their Masters of the Universe live-action movie.

As the Nee brothers approach a LEGO Movie reboot, they’ll have quite the giant shoes left to fill. Released in 2017, The LEGO Movie was a massive critical and commercial success. The film grossed $468.1 million worldwide against its $60–65 million budget and even received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. This quickly spawned an entire movie universe, including The LEGO Batman Movie, The LEGO Ninjago Movie (both 2017), and The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (2019).

There’s no word on a planned release date for this new LEGO movie as of the time of writing.
