Production has begun on the third season of the Ted Danson mystery comedy A Man on the Inside, though with the announcement Netflix also revealed the upcoming season will be its final.
The series follows Danson as Charles Nieuwendyk, a retired engineering professor and widower who finds a new purpose after answering a wanted ad for help in a private investigator’s office as a ‘man on the inside’ for her case. After becoming taken with the profession, Charles has continued to help her on various cases which his age and former profession have allowed him to investigate where she could not.
Starring alongside Danson is Lilah Richcreek Estrada as Charles’ boss Julie Kovalenko, Mary Elizabeth Ellis as his daughter Emily, Stephanie Beatriz as Didi Santos Cordero, Mary Steenburgen as Mona Margadoff, Eugene Cordero as Joel Piñero, Sally Struthers as Virginia Foldau and Stephen McKinley Henderson as Calbert Graham.
A Man on the Inside season three will see Charles and Julie hired by Coco Van Beck, the Grand Dame of San Francisco society, to find whoever is trying to sabotage her philanthropic work. Coco will be played by Bernadette Peters (The Debut) alongside a new cast of suspects:
- Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreations) as Jack Spencer, one of Coco’s employees who takes a special interest in Charles’ investigation.
- Annette O’Toole (Virgin River) will play Kitt, a fixture in San Francisco high society and one of Coco’s oldest friends.
- Christopher McDonald (Hacks) will play Leland, a playboy vineyard owner and Coco’s third ex-husband.
- Diedrich Bader (Better Things) will play Mark Delaurio, a powerful real estate developer who has clashed with Coco many times in the past.
- Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live) will play Maud, Coco’s harried assistant who sleeps three hours a night and has three phones going at all times.
- Stephen Root (Widow’s Bay) will play Dave, Charles’ estranged brother who has some old scores to settle.
- Jessica St. Clair (The Studio) will play Chloe, a friend of Emily’s (Ellis) who helps her navigate a new phase in parenthood.
“This series began with a retiree taking a chance at a new life,” series creator Mike Schur said. “By answering a help-wanted ad and venturing out into the world, Charles Nieuwendyk made his world bigger and proved that life only slows down if you let it. We are thrilled to be able to conclude his journey with one final chapter, as embodied by the great Ted Danson, who I am legally required to refer to as a ‘National Treasure.’”
Production began earlier this week in San Francisco. A premiere window has not been revealed.
