Alex Garland to write and direct an adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer’s Annihilation

Following on from the arrival of the trailer for his directorial debut Ex Machina [watch it here], it has now been revealed that Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Dredd) is set to write and direct an adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer’s sci-fi novel Annihilation.

The first book of The Southern Reach Trilogy, Annihilation is set in the near future and tells the story of a scientific team who embark on an expedition into a mysterious area called Area X, which has been sealed off from the rest of civilization as a “disaster zone” for the past thirty years.
