Alexander and Bill Skarsgard up for Lex Luthor as Superman: Legacy nearing its Lois & Clark

June 27, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Are we nearing the final cast for Superman: Legacy? As casting drags into week two, James Gunn’s DC Studios intro circles some strong contenders.

The Hollywood Reporter recently broke the news that Gunn’s casting has entered another round. Superman and his love interest are auditioned together, and now Lex Luthor names have joined the conversation.

Per THR, these screen tests included “several scenes, in which the males were in makeup and wardrobe as Daily Planet reporter Kent while the females were plucky journalist Lane.”

The Clark Kent and Lois Lane auditions pairs went as such: Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan; Tom Brittney and Phoebe Dynevor; and David Corenswet and Emma Mackey. They also noted Brittney and Corenswet did another series of screen tests the following day, this time in costume as Superman. An interesting note for the outlet was “only Mackey was brought in that day to portray Lane opposite the actors.”

As for Superman’s most infamous foe Lex Luthor, THR notes siblings Alexander and Bill Skarsgard have been mentioned. This marks the first new names included in the Lex castings, with Hoult once attached for the role before moving towards the Clark Kent role. Both of the Skarsgard brothers are familiar with Warner Bros. Discovery, and Bill was even rumored to be eyed for the Swamp Thing role.

They are also casting members of a supergroup named the Authority, which is rumored to be a very James Gunn-type group that will face off against Superman. No word on any of their castings.

It seems like there will be some time before the announcement for the secondary villains is named, but The Hollywood Reporter claims we’ll learn who will play Lois & Clark this week.

The official synopsis states Superman: Legacy “tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman: Legacy is scheduled to open in theaters on July 11th, 2025.
