Alicia Silverstone wants another shot at playing Batgirl

May 17, 2017 by Gary Collinson

With Warner Bros. and director Joss Whedon currently in development on a Batgirl solo movie – which, according to Zack Snyder, will be the DCEU’s next female-led solo movie – we can expect to hear plenty of rumour and speculation as to who’ll be taking on the role of Barbara Gordon over the coming months.

Batgirl has of course previously appeared on the big screen, with Alicia Silverstone taking on the role for 1997’s Batman & Robin (albeit as Barbara Wilson, niece to Alfred Pennyworth). And, speaking to USA Today, Silverstone has revealed that she’d like a second crack at the character.

“I feel like I could do a much better Batgirl now than I did then. It would be fun to tackle it again. Because I’m older and my acting is better. I know I would bring so much more to it. I was just a baby [on Batman & Robin]. It was a different thing. But I had fun back then. And I think it would be fun to do it again.”

While Silverstone is highly unlikely to get her wish, Joss Whedon has previously suggested that he’s potentially open to her appearing in a cameo, telling Comic Book that: “[A cameo] hasn’t crossed my mind. I’m not against it, but I’m not looking for Easter eggs – I’m still trying to write a movie!”

Who would you like to see as Barbara Gordon in the Batgirl movie? Let us know in the comments below…
