American Horror Story regular says season 10 will be “different in tone” than previous seasons

March 2, 2021 by Liam Waddington

With the upcoming tenth season of American Horror Story currently in production, one of the series’ stars has admitted that the latest season will be different from previous seasons.

In an interview with EW, actor Finn Wittrock revealed that the latest season in Ryan Murphy’s popular horror anthology series will be “different in tone” than anything we have seen before from the show.

“I think this is OK to say, I think the suspense in this and the tight, constrained nature of the story is different than other seasons,” Wittrock said. “I was really interested in trying to mount the pressure in the right way, if that makes sense. It is different in tone than a lot of the other seasons.”

After playing clown killer protege Dandy Mott in Freak Show, model Tristan Duffy and actor Rudolph Valentino in Hotel, Polk family savage Jether in Roanoke, and son-of-a-serial-killer Bobby Richter in 1984, the actor continued to tease that his season 10 role is “the most ‘normal’ person that I’ve played on this show. That’s not saying much.”

“What’s fun about this show is that no two things are ever the same,” said Wittrock. “It’s like, ‘Do you wanna come in and do this single episode or do you wanna come in and be the lead of this season?’ ‘Do you wanna come be a crazy psycho killer?’ ‘Do you wanna come in and be this relatively normal dad?’ You just never know what you’re gonna get.”

Plot details on the new season of American Horror Story are still being kept under wraps, although there’s been a lot of speculation that it could focus on some form of aquatic horror given that creator Ryan Murphy has previously teased a beach setting and a “weather-dependent” story.

The cast for the upcoming tenth season is set to include American Horror Story regulars Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe, Leslie Grossman, Adina Porter, and Angelica Ross, with Macaulay Culkin being the newest addition.
