Ansel Elgort set for lead role in The Goldfinch

October 4, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Ansel Elgort has been offered the lead role in adaptation of The Goldfinch.

The critically acclaimed novel by Donna Tartt is being adapted by Warner Bros. and Amazon Studios, and seems to have found its leading man in Baby Driver’s Elgort.

Director of the film, John Crowley, had been on the hunt for actors to play the role of Theo, meeting with a number of candidates over the past two months.

The rights for the Pulitzer award-winning book were picked up back in 2014 by Warner and RatPac, with the latter being both a producer and investor in the film.

Described as having ‘Dickensian plotting’ The Goldfinch tells the tale of Theodore Decker who, after surviving a terrorist bombing at an art museum in which his mother was killed, goes on an adventure that sees him involved in art forgeries and living with his deadbeat father in Las Vegas.

Warner Bros. will distribute the film worldwide.
