Apple TV+ orders second season of Idris Elba’s high-octane hit Hijack

February 1, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Idris Elba will return as Sam Nelson in a second season of Apple TV+ hit Hijack.

It won’t have taken the kind of negotiation skills used by Idris Elba’s high-flying hero in order to convince Apple TV+ to greenlight a second season of Hijack. The show was a hit with critics, sitting at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, and was ranked in the Nielsen Streaming Originals Top 10 list for 2023.

Directed by Jim Field Smith, the seven-episode series follows a corporate negotiator (Idris Elba) on board a hijacked plane and the authorities on the ground as they scramble to save its passengers.

The season one cast included Neil Maskell, Christine Adams, Eve Myles, Archie Panjabi, Max Beesley, Ben Miles, and Kate Phillips.

In a press release Elba reacted to the news by saying “I was floored by the overwhelming audience response after Season 1. It’s top secret what new situation unfolds for Sam Nelson, but I can assure you we will bring the high octane back!”
