What’s the best thing to do with a beloved seasonal romantic-comedy that’s cherished by generations of film fans? If you’re Apple TV+ then the answer is turn it into a limited series.
According to Deadline that’s exactly what the streaming giants are going to do with Nancy Meyers’ The Holiday. Her 2006 seasonal favourite which stars Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black as couples who take part in a transatlantic house-swap, and find love along the way.
The limited series is being written and executive produced by Krissie Ducker (Sweetpea), with Rob Delaney (Catastrophe) on board in a consultancy role. At the time of writing, Nancy Meyers has no involvement in the project.
The intention with this small-screen version of The Holiday is to use the premise of the movie, but with new characters.
Released in December 2006, The Holiday was a box-office success, grossing over $200 million worldwide, and remains a mainstay of repertory cinema schedules, film-and-concert screenings, and TVs around the world at Christmas time.
