Avengers: Infinity War directors considered using The Defenders, but it was “practically impossible”

March 21, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Way back when Avengers: Infinity War was first announced, there was a huge amount of speculation as to whether the Marvel blockbuster would see its big screen heroes joined by characters from the likes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the various Marvel Netflix shows.

Sadly for fans of the shows, it was later announced that Infinity War would focus solely on the movie side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, co-director Joe Russo has revealed to Premiere that they did consider bringing in The Defenders, but it was “practically impossible” due to the logistics of it.

“We’ve all considered,” said Russo. “But the trick is that we already have at least sixty characters with whom we must tell a story! And it’s hard enough to communicate with Taika Waititi, Ryan Coogler, Scott Derrickson, Peyton Reed and James Gunn at the same time, not to add all the showrunners and TV crews to this. The latter is also led by totally different people. So it’s practically impossible. Our job is to focus on the Marvel film world and offer a satisfying climax.”

Are you still disappointed that we won’t be seeing Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist as part of Infinity War? Or have you accepted that Marvel’s TV shows don’t exist as far as Kevin Feige and company at Marvel Studios are concerned?
