Barbie sets 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD release

October 5, 2023 by Ricky Church

Set your calendars because Barbie is coming home! Warner Bros. has announced the release date for Barbie on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD and it is coming later this month on October 17th.

Released in July, Barbie has become on of the year’s biggest hits with $626 million domestically, beating out 2012’s Avengers, and has earned a worldwide haul of $1.4 billion. It even held a zeitgeist moment as it was released on the same day as Christopher Nolan’s biopic Oppenheimer with many dubbing the day ‘Barbenheimer’ and vowing to see both films back-to-back. Barbie is also said to be a frontrunner for next year’s Academy Awards where it could be nominated for many of the ceremony’s big awards.

The 4K and Blu-ray will include six special features titled ‘Welcome to Barbie Land,’ ‘Becoming Barbie,’ ‘Playing Dress-Up,’ ‘Musical Make-Believe,’ ‘All-Star Barbie Party’ and ‘It’s A Weird World.’ Check out the cover artwork for the 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray releases here…

After being expelled from the utopian Barbie Land for being a less-than-perfect doll, Barbie and Ken go on a journey of self-discovery to the real world.

Directed by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird, Little Women), the Barbie movie sees Robbie and Gosling’s iconic toy couple joined by a bumper cast that includes  Will Ferrell (Step Brothers), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Kate McKinnon (Bombshell), America Ferrera (Superstore), Ariana Greenblatt (Love and Monsters), Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Alexandra Shipp (tick, tick… BOOM!), Issa Rae (The Lovebirds), Michael Cera (Arrested Development), Hari Nef (And Just Like That…), Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami), Rhea Perlman (Cheers), Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education), Emerald Fennell (The Crown), Sharon Rooney (The Electrical Life of Louis Wain), Scott Evans (Grace and Frankie), Ana Cruz Kayne (Little Women), Connor Swindells (Sex Education), Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy), Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag) and Helen Mirren (Shazam! Fury of the Gods).

Barbie will be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on October 17th.
