BBC Studios developing The Last Days of Marilyn Monroe drama series

April 8, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that BBC Studios is in development on a new drama series entitled The Last Days of Marilyn Monroe, which will tell the story of the final months of the screen icon’s life, and her relationships with the likes of Joe DiMaggio, John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy.

The series will be based on Keith Badman’s book The Final Years of Marilyn Monroe: The Shocking True Story, and is being written by Dan Sefton (Trust Me, The Good Karma Hospital).

“Marilyn’s desire to be taken seriously as an actress and her battle with the powerful men who control the studio system is sadly as relevant today as it ever was,” said Sefton.

“In the last few months of her life, Marilyn was sincerely loved, callously betrayed, cynically filled with hope and ultimately cruelly abandoned,” added executive producer Anne Pivcevic of BBC Studios. “Her death changed the lives of everyone in her orbit and cemented her status as a legend.”

The news follows the recent casting of Blade Runner 2049 star Ana de Armas as Monroe in Blonde, a feature film adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ novel set up at Netflix which is being directed by Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford).
