Big Little Lies’ Jean-Marc Vallee to direct Gorilla and the Bird for HBO

December 14, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Having directed the first season of Big Little Lies for the cable network, filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallee is set to reunite with HBO for the new limited series Gorilla and the Bird.

Based on Zack McDermott’s book Gorilla and the Bird: A Memoir of Madness and a Mother’s Love, the drama is described as “an inspirational tale of a mother’s unconditional love for her bipolar son. It follows Zack (the Gorilla) as he fights to regain his sanity after a devastating psychotic break, turning to the only person who didn’t give up on him – his mother (The Bird).”

Vallee will direct the series, as well as executive producing with showrunner Bryan Sipe (Demolition). Channing Tatum, Nathan Ross, Marc Turtletaub, Peter Saraf, Robin Schwartz, Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan are also attached as executive producers.
