Bond producer says Daniel Craig is “absolutely still the first choice” for 007

September 30, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Despite all the speculation surrounding his potential successor – which has been running rampant since the release of Spectre last year – James Bond producer Callum McDougall has told the BBC that Daniel Craig is still “absolutely the first choice” of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to play 007 in the super spy’s next big screen adventure.

“I wish I knew,” said McDougall when asked who’ll be the next 007. “We love Daniel, we would love Daniel to return as Bond. Without any question, he is absolutely Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson’s first choice and I know they are hoping for him to come back.”

Craig’s future has been in doubt since he suggested that he’d rather “slash my wrists” than return for another movie, with a host of actors then rumoured as his potential replacement, including the likes of  Idris Elba (Luther), Michael Fassbender (The Light Between Oceans), Tom Hiddleston (The Night Manager), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6), Aidan Turner (Poldark), Jamie Bell (Fantastic Four) and James Norton (War & Peace).

It was recently rumoured that Craig had been offered a whopping $150 million deal to return for two more movies, which followed on from earlier reports that he’d actually turned down a $100 million offer.
