Boris Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster documentary trailer and poster released

August 23, 2021 by Amie Cranswick

Shout! Studios has released a poster and trailer for Boris Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster, anew documentary which shines the spotlight on iconic British actor Boris Karloff, whose roles in the likes of Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and The Mummy catapulted him to superstardom and saw him become a horror movie icon whose influence continues to this day. Check them out here…

“In Boris Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster, audiences will be taken on a journey through Boris Karloff’s life and career. They will discover the secrets of the man, the struggles and triumphs of his career, as well as the surprising twists it took, and hear direct testimony from the man himself and those who were closest,” states director Thomas Hamilton. “Additionally, we chart the rise of one of the most durable of Hollywood genres, the horror film, and provide fresh perspectives on the peculiar power that these films retain, 90 years after they were made.”

Beginning just before his debut as Frankenstein’s creation, BORIS KARLOFF: THE MAN BEHIND THE MONSTER compellingly explores the life and legacy of a cinema legend, presenting a perceptive history of the genre he personified. His films were long derided as hokum and attacked by censors. But his phenomenal popularity and pervasive influence endures, inspiring some of our greatest actors and directors into the 21st Century – among them Guillermo Del Toro, Ron Perlman, Roger Corman & John Landis all of whom and many more contribute their personal insights and anecdotes.

Boris Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster arrives in cinemas on September 17th.
