Brad Peyton explains why DC’s Lobo hasn’t happened yet

May 18, 2015 by admin

Much like Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man, it seems as though the launch of the DC Cinematic Universe is the reason behind the production of Lobo finding its way into Development Hell. In an interview with ComingSoon, director Brad Peyton (San Andreas) has explained the full reason behind the movie falling off the Warner Bros. radar.

“I think what’s happening with DC is that they have prioritised what they need to make first in order to kind of lay the foundations for the DC universe”, Peyton explains. “This is what I believe is happening just from what they’ve been talking about. They’re talking about Justice League, Batman V Superman, and going into Flash, Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Those are kind of the pillars of that universe”.

“I was really happy with the script,” he continues. “I talked with Dwayne [Johnson] about it. Joel Silver [producer] and I had a really amazing meeting about it. I did a rewrite of the script and was really, really excited for it. In their estimation, though, he wasn’t one of those main guys”.

But could Lobo eventually see the light of day? “I think there’s going to be a really amazing time for Lobo and I think people are going to realise, certainly once they revisit it, what they’re sitting on”, Peyton explains, adding, “fingers crossed it comes to fruition at some point”.

With DC’s Cinematic Universe planned out now until 2020, it seems like we’re a little way off Lobo ever hitting the big screen. The project was circling Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to star in the role, but with the actor now set to play Black Adam in Shazam, the film now needs a new lead as well as a release date.
