Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool, starring Alexander Skarsgård and Mia Goth, receives NC-17 rating

September 21, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Brandon Cronenberg is gearing up for another shocker after his stellar work in Possessor. But this time, he’s facing some harsh criticism from the MPAA.

Cronenberg’s latest project, Infinity Pool, has received an “NC-17” rating from the MPAA. The rating comes from “some graphic violence and sexual content.”

As per the press release, “Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies, Godzilla Vs. Kong, The Little Drummer Girl, The Hummingbird Project, Hold the Dark, and upcoming The Northman) will star in Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool. Skarsgård will further serve as executive producer.” Mia Goth is also set to star, fresh off her duel 2022 performances in Ti West’s X and its prequel Pearl.

In the film, “James and Em are young, rich, in love, and on vacation. Their all-inclusive resort boasts island tours and gleaming beaches. But outside of the hotel gates waits something much more dangerous and seductive, beyond the edge of paradise.”

The MPAA board is pushing hard against films this year, as we’ve seen Netflix’s Blonde and now Infinity Pool receive the dreaded NC-17 rating. The type of rating will likely limit any theatrical run for the project but will probably bring more eyes to it. We’ve learned Neon is appealing to the C.A.R.A. Appeals Board, as they have chosen not to edit the film but fight against the NC-17 rating.

NEON will release Infinity Pool in the U.S., and Elevation Pictures will release the film in Canada.
