Breaking Bad VR project in the works from creator Vince Gilligan

June 6, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Vince Gilligan is working on a VR project for his critically acclaimed AMC TV series Breaking Bad.

This is certainly strange news, but it seems that Vince Gilligan, who is currently executive producer and co-creator of Breaking Bad spin off, Better Call Saul, is pretty taken with the technology behind VR, and believes that he can take it somewhere.

Sony put together an event for some of TVs biggest names, inviting the likes of Gilligan and The Blacklist creator, David Shore, to play around with the tech.

“We set up a day at our campus where we brought seven of the best show runners [Sony Pictures Television] work with, like David Shore of The Blacklist and Ron Moore, who did Battlestar Galactica, Vince and some other folks,” says Andrew House, global chief executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment, which is the company’s video game division. “And they just played around with VR. Several of them were intrigued, but Vince was the one who said, ‘I really want to do something with this. I want to experiment with this.’”

VR is hoping to be the next big thing in video games, with Sony’s PlayStation having a headset available for gamers. And because live action 360 video is still in its infancy, Gilligan will be working with Sony’s game team to bring his vision to life.

It will certainly be interesting to see what comes of the venture, but no hard details are currently available for the project, other than that it won’t release this year. One to look out for.
