Brie Larson begins filming as Captain Marvel for Avengers 4

September 19, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Although it had been heavily rumoured that Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers would make her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Infinity War, it was subsequently confirmed that she’ll be sitting out next year’s Marvel blockbuster, and will instead debut as Captain Marvel in her own solo movie in March 2019.

However, it seems that Captain Marvel will be linking up with the rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers 4, as the ever-reliable Atlanta Filming is reporting that Larson has been spotted arriving in the city alongside Chris Evans to begin filming on the as-yet-untitled sequel. So far, we don’t have any set photos of Larson in character, but if there is any location shooting, expect them to pop up soon.

Given that Captain Marvel is set in the early 1990s (and will see Carol battling the Skrulls), it remains to be seen how the character will end up in the present day-MCU. Reportedly, her half-Kree/half-human DNA will be used to explain why the character hasn’t aged, and her absence for the past few years could easily be explained by having her been away on various cosmic adventures.

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th 2018 in the UK and May 4th 2018 in the US and will feature an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket, Kraglin), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Peter Dinklage, Terry Notary and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
