Brooklyn Nine-Nine saved as NBC orders sixth season

May 12, 2018 by Ricky Church

After its sudden cancellation by Fox earlier this week, it seemed like that would be it for Brooklyn Nine-Nine as Netflix and Hulu passed on the chance of a revival. However, fans of the cop-comedy series can rejoice as NBC has decided to take on Brooklyn Nine-Nine for a sixth season.

The move makes sense as NBC’s subsidiary Universal Television produces the series. Brooklyn Nine-Nine will return on NBC for an order of 13-episodes.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine was created by Michael Schur and Dan Goor, who also worked on another cult favourite of NBC’s, Parks and Recreation. Schur also worked on one of the network’s most renowned hits: the American remake of The Office, which still remains popular.

“Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home,” said Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment. “Mike Schur, Dan Goor, and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC and we’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy line-up. I speak for everyone at NBC, here’s to the Nine-Nine!”

The cancellation of Brooklyn Nine-Nine came as a shock to fans worldwide, quickly becoming the fastest trending topic of the day that kept on going. The amount of outpouring over the cancellation is one factor that generated so much interest by other networks and streaming services to pick the show up from Fox. Not long after NBC’s announcement, Goor took to his own Twitter to reveal the news to fans.
