Camila Mendes is Teela in the Masters of the Universe movie

August 15, 2024 by Ricky Church

Greyskull has a new arrival. Riverdale and Do Revenge actress Camila Mendes will star in the live-action Masters of the Universe as Teela, He-Man’s close friend and ally in the battle against evil.

Teela is “a warrior who as Captain of Eternia’s Royal Guard, is responsible for protecting the royal family, especially Prince Adam aka He-Man.” Mendes will star alongside Nicholas Galitzine, who was cast earlier this summer as Prince Adam/He-Man in the film.

A Masters of the Universe film has been in development hell for several years, going through several writers, directors and actors attached to the project. This is the furthest the film has come yet in any production with the addition of a new cast member alongside He-Man.

The franchise has been active since the 1980s, beginning as a very popular toyline which became an animated series with He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. It has followed Prince Adam who gains the powers of Greyskull to turn into its defender He-Man, fighting against the evil forces of Skeletor as he tries to conquer Eternia. A live-action film starring Dolph Lungren as He-Man was made in 1987 and several other animated series have been produced, the most recent being Masters of the Universe: Revolution on Netflix.

Masters of the Universe will be directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee) from a script by Knight’s Kubo and the Two Strings screenwriter Chris Butler. The film is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Escape Artists and Mattel Films.

Masters of the Universe will be released on June 5, 2026.
