Capcom announces competition for real Monster Hunters

January 30, 2018 by Andrew Newton

In celebration of the release of Monster Hunter: World Capcom have announced a competition to find the world’s best Monster Hunter.  Starting on the 30th January and running until 30th June Capcom is offering a huge £50,000 reward to those who can provide undoubtable proof of the existence of ten legendary creatures including Mermaids and Yetis.

Real life monster hunter,Cryptozoologist and Director of The Centre for Fortean Zoology, Jon Downes, has been enlisted by Capcom to help select the monsters that are rumoured to exist across the globe and also assist with the examination of evidence once submissions have closed.

Jon Downes said: “There are stories of monsters from around the world, and while some may be flights of fancy, not every one of these monsters can be made up. It is one of life’s great mysteries and similar to Monster Hunter: World, I’ve spent the majority of my life travelling across the globe to hunt for evidence of these creatures. Although I have had some successes, I have yet to find that elusive proof and it is time for me to offer my help as I throw down the gauntlet to the next generation.”

The 10 real life monsters requiring absolute proof are:

  1. Bigfoot AKA Sasquatch is a monster from American folklore that inhabits forests, especially those of the Pacific Northwest.
  2. Scottish lake monster (Loch Ness Monster) – Monsters such as Loch Ness Monster (or Nessie to her friends) have been sighted in and other lakes in Scotland and Ireland.
  3. Mongolian Death Worm – A Monster that is to be found in the Gobi Desert, think of the creatures in Tremors but a bit smaller…. oh and it’s poisonous to the touch.
  4. Mermaid – The real Mermaids are certainly no Disney princess, real Mermaids are grotesque, feral creatures that will drag a person to the briny deep.
  5. Earth Hound – Described by a 19th century clergyman as “…a mysterious dreaded sort of animal, …believed to live in graveyards, burrowing among the dead bodies and devouring them.” It is a terrier sized animal reported to be found in remote Scottish graveyards.
  6. Yeti/Almasty – One of the most well known monsters in the world and located in the foothills of the Himalayas.  Researchers have theorised that these dark furred creatures may actually be a primitive species of human.
  7. Chupacabras – A semi-bipedal spined beast responsible for a spate of mysterious animal killings on the outskirts of Canovenas in Puertio Rico in 1995.
  8. The flying snake of Namibia – A 25 ft long snake with a shining scale in the middle of its forehead.
  9. Yowie – A  ape-like creature from Australia.
  10. Cornish Owlman – Since 1976 children, nearly always girls, have reported seeing a grotesque, feathered bird-man in and around the churchyard of Mawnan old Church located near the village of Mawnan Smith in Cornwall.  This creature has been associated with various strange phenomena in the area and even with a Phoenician cult which sacrificed small children to an owl god.

If the chance of winning £50,000 and going down in history as the person to prove the existence of one of these creatures then read the really important Terms & Conditions below.

The Real Life Monster Hunter bounty will open for entries on 30th January, 2018 and close on 30th June, 2018. For more information or to submit evidence of a monster and be in with the chance of winning the £50,000 reward, please contact monsterhunter@hopeandglorypr.com.
