Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returning as Daredevil and Kingpin in Marvel’s Echo

July 9, 2022 by Gary Collinson

After making their MCU debuts proper in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye respectively, it was only a matter of time until we saw the return of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, and now we have confirmation that the two will be reprising their roles as Daredevil and Kingpin for the Disney+ series Echo.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Cox and D’Onofrio – stars of Netflix’s acclaimed Daredevil series – will be returning to star alongside Alaqua Cox, who reprises her role as Maya Lopez, the titular Echo, from last year’s Hawkeye.

It’s yet to be confirmed/clarified by Marvel as to whether these versions of the characters are the exact ones who appeared in the Netflix series or MCU ‘variants’, but THR’s report also goes on to suggest that another of The Defenders might also make their return in the upcoming Disney+ show.

As per the trade, a plotline in Echo will see Matt Murdoch searching out a former ally, the speculation being that this could be Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter. That’s unconfirmed, but the actress has admitted that she would reprise the role of the hard-drinking private eye “in a flash”  and she has been rumoured for a potential appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (as has Daredevil), while Disney and Marvel recently updated the Disney+ title card for Netflix show to read A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Sus?

Daredevil and Kingpin’s involvement with the Echo series should come as little surprise to comic book readers, as both play a key role in Maya’s story. Part of that played out in Hawkeye, which ended with Maya taking her revenge on her ‘Uncle’ Wilson Fisk, his fate left unknown. In the comics (and the MCU it seems), Kingpin survives this encounter, although he is left blinded by Maya.

Along with Alaqua Cox, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, Echo will see Zahn McClarnon reprising his Hawkeye role as Maya’s father William Lopez, while the rest of the cast includes Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning and Graham Greene.

Echo is slated to air on Disney+ in 2023.
