Christopher Nolan adapting Homer’s The Odyssey for new film

December 24, 2024 by Gary Collinson

Having spent the past couple of months assembling his customary stellar list of acting talent for his next project, it has now been revealed that Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan is tackling Homer’s Greek epic The Odyssey for his follow-up to Oppenheimer.

Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.

Believed to have been written around the 8th century B.C., The Odyssey follows the Greek hero Odysseus and details his long journey home to Ithaca following the events of the Trojan War, as detailed in Homer’s Illiad.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey features a cast that so far includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and Robert Pattinson. Expect more casting announcements in the coming weeks.
