Cillian Murphy and Matt Damon featured in set photos from Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer

March 17, 2022 by EJ Moreno

While Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is still going about casting everyone in the industry, the project has also begun production on some of the film’s most important scenes as we now have our first look at Cillian Murphy on set as J. Robert Oppenheimer.

In these photos, from Twitter user @FilmOppenheimer, we see the Peaky Blinders star in full costume as he works alongside Matt Damon who is playing Lieutenant General Leslie Groves, and in this scene they are re-creating the Army-Navy “E” Award Ceremony.

Check out these behind-the-scenes photos from Nolan’s hotly-anticipated new film…

Oppenheimer stars Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders), Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place Part II), Matt Damon (Stillwater), Robert Downey Jr. (Avengers: Endgame), Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Rami Malek (No Time to Die), Benny Safdie (Licorice Pizza), Dane DeHaan (Lisey’s Story), Jack Quaid (The Boys), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things), David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad, Dune), Louise Lombard (After We Collided), Jason Clarke (The Devil All The Time), Josh Peck (Drake & Josh), Matthias Schweighöfer (Army of the Dead), Emily Dumont (Licorice Pizza), Gustaf Skarsgard (Vikings), Guy Burnet (Ray Donovan) and Danny Deferrari (Shiva Baby).

Oppenheimer is written by Nolan and is based upon the biography American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. The film charts the development of the atomic bomb during World War II, and the official logline reads:

“The IMAX-shot epic thriller thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.”

Oppenheimer is currently set for release on July 21st, 2023.
