Claire Foy officially joins The Girl in the Spider’s Web as Lisbeth Salander

September 16, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in May it was reported that Claire Foy had emerged as the favourite to succeed Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl in the Spider’s Web, Sony Pictures’ upcoming sequel/reboot of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and now the studio has officially confirmed that The Crown star has boarded the film.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled about Claire taking the reins of the iconic Lisbeth Salander,” said director Fede Alvarez. “Claire is an incredible, rare talent who will inject a new and exciting life into Lisbeth. I can’t wait to bring this new story to a worldwide audience, with Claire Foy at its center.”

The Girl in the Spider’s Web is based upon the fourth novel in the Millennium series, and the first to be penned by David Lagercrantz following the death of original creator Stieg Larsson. It has been scripted by Alvarez, Jay Basu and Steven Knight, and is slated for release on October 5th 2018.
