Colin Baker’s Sixth Doctor is back for Doctor Who: Once and Future – Two’s Company from Big Finish

August 18, 2023 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish Production’s latest episode in the ongoing Doctor Who: Once and Future audio drama anniversary series is now available on the Big Finish website.  Titled Two’s Company, this latest episode features a mismatched pair of ladies as well as the Sixth Doctor.

In Doctor Who: Once and Future: Two’s Company, the Doctor has been injured during the Time War and is taken to a Time Lord field hospital where his body begins to glow with energy.  However, this is no regeneration but a strange ‘degeneration’ between incarnations.

The Doctor’s time is short and the ‘degeneration’ needs to be stopped before he loses himself completely so travels through time and space, encountering old friends and enemies and eventually meets Jackie Tyler and Lady Christina de Souza whilst in the form of the Sixth Doctor.  Meanwhile, a renegade Time Lord has tricked Harry Sullivan into stopping the Doctor’s travels and it seems they are all set to collide.

This full-cast audio drama, written by Lisa McMullin, features Jackie Tyler (played by Camille Coduri) and Lady Christina de Souza (Michelle Ryan), Christopher Naylor as Harry Sullivan and Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor.

Colin Baker reprises his role as The Sixth Doctor

Producer David Richardson said: “This episode is a glorious collision of much-loved characters. It’s chalk meets cheese in the Once and Future universe, and there’s so much fun to be had…”

“I marvel at the fact that Big Finish can continue to produce such a high standard of script. Lisa McMullin has done a lovely job.” said the beloved Colin Baker.

Michelle Ryan added: “I love that I got to work with Colin. He’s great. He’s got that wisdom in his voice. I love the new dynamic (working with his Doctor), it’s a totally different dimension that I didn’t anticipate.”

Finally, Camille Coduri said: “How brilliant – you’ve got your working-class girl (Jackie Tyler) and your aristo (Lady Christina). Jackie’s relationship with the Doctor is love/hate, but they’re more like sisters.”

Doctor Who – Once and Future: Two’s Company is available now as a physical edition and digital download, exclusively from the Big Finish website.  A bundle is available for all eight episodes for just £72 (on collector’s edition CD and download) or £60 (download only).
