Damian Lewis returning to Billions for Season 7

March 5, 2023 by Ricky Church

Axe is back as Damian Lewis is returning to Billions for its seventh season. Showtime announced the news over their Twitter account with Lewis playing Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod in a recurring role for the new season.

Lewis was the lead of Billions, starring as Axelrod for five seasons before departing the series after its fifth season in 2021. His departure came due to family tragedy as his wife Helen McCrory, who was an actress and starred in Peaky Blinders, Harry Potter and Hugo, passed away. Lewis took an understandable break from acting, but has since come back with A Spy Among Friends and now his Billions return.

Lewis will star in a recurring role for the first six episodes of Season 7. His absence in the show has been explained by Axe cutting a deal to avoid jail and making off to Switzerland after being bought out of his company. What Axe’s return means for its characters, particularly Paul Giamatti’s Chuck Rhoades who hounded him for years to arrest him, is likely anything but good.

In season seven, alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponized. Loyalties are tested. Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends. And Bobby Axelrod returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world.

Billions stars Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll, Maggie Siff, Asia Kate Dillon, David Costabile, Toby Leonard Moore, Condola Rashad, Jeffrey DeMunn, Kelly AuCoin, and Daniel Breaker.
