DC announces Rebirth creative teams

March 27, 2016 by Ricky Church

Ever since DC Comics began promoting Rebirth, fans have wondered if it means the company will once again reboot the DC Universe and which series will be cancelled, created or retooled. While Rebirth isn’t strictly a full out reboot as The New 52 was, it’s a clear shift in their creative line-up, attempting to return some things the way they were prior to The New 52 status.

Today at Wondercon, DC finally revealed the series that will be a part of Rebirth as well as the creative teams. There are several familiar names as well as new ones in the line-up. One surprising announcement is Greg Rucka returning to Wonder Woman, something many fans should be very happy about after his stellar run on the title from 2003 – 2006. Action Comics and Detective Comics are also returning to their original numbering while several titles will be shipped twice monthly. DC Rebirth begins in May with a one-shot written by Geoff Johns and art by Gary Frank, Ivan Reis, Ethan Van Sciver and Phil Jemenez. To simplify things, I’ve broken the new titles down into categories relating to that part of the DC Universe, such as the Batman comics or Superman comics. Take a look and let us know if you’re excited for these new creative teams.

JUSTICE LEAGUE

Justice League: writer Bryan Hitch, who is currently writing Justice League of America, with art by Tony Daniel and Fernando Pasarin. It will ship twice monthly starting in June. An interesting thing about this series is the placement of the two new Green Lanterns, Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz, on the team.

Titians: writer Dan Abnett and art by Brett Booth.

The Flash: writer Joshua Williamson and art by Carmine Di Giandomenico and Neil Googe. It will ship twice monthly starting in June.

Aquaman: writers Dan Abnett and Brad Walker and artists Brad Walker, Jesus Merino and Phil Briones.

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps: writer Robert Venditti, who is currently on the Green Lantern title, and artists Ethan Van Sciver and Rafa Sandoval. It will ship twice monthly starting in July.

Green Lanterns: writer Sam Humphires and artists Robson Rocha and Ardian Syaf. Much like Justice League, this series will feature Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz in the lead roles. It will ship twice monthly starting in June.

Cyborg: writer John Semper and artists Will Conrad and Paul Pelletier. It will ship twice monthly starting in August.

BATMAN

Batman: writer Tom King and artists David Finch and Mikel Janin. It will ship twice monthly starting in June.

Detective Comics: writer James Tynion IV and artists Eddy Barrows and Alvaro Martinez. It will ship twice monthly starting in June.

All Star Batman: writer Scott Snyder and artists John Romita Jr, Jock, Tula Lotay, Paul Pope, Afua Richardson and Sean Murphy. Snyder is currently wrapping up his run on the main Batman title, concluding next month with Batman #51. It will ship twice monthly starting in August.

Nightwing: writer Tim Seeley and artists Marcus To and Javi Fernandez. This not only sees Dick Grayson return to his role as Nightwing, but back in his pre-52 suit with the blue bird rather than red. It will ship twice monthly starting in July.

Batgirl: writer Hope Larson and artist Rafael Albuquerque. This is the first time Hope Larson will have written for a superhero title.

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey: writers Julie Benson and Shawna Benson and artist Claire Roe.

Harley Quinn: writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner and artists Chad Hardin and John Timms. It will ship twice monthly starting in August.

Red Hood and the Outlaws: writer Scott Lobdell and artist Dexter Soy. This book will feature Bizarro and the Amazon Artemis, forming what Geoff Johns calls a “dark trinity”.

Batman Beyond: writer Dan Jurgens and artist Bernard Chang. This series will feature the return of Terry McGinnis to the mantle of the future Batman.

SUPERMAN

Superman: writers Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason and artists Patrick Gleason and Doug Mahnke. It will ship twice monthly starting in June.

Action Comics: writer Dan Jurgens and artists Patrick Zircher, Tyler Kirkham and Stephen Segovia. It will ship twice monthly starting in June.

Supergirl: writer Steve Orlando and artist Brian Ching.

Superwoman: writer/artist Phil Jimenez and artist Emanuela Lupacchino. It will star an entirely new character.

New Super-Man: writer Gene Yang and artist Viktor Bogdanovic. Similar to Superwoman, it also features a new character who gains the same powers as Superman and decides to become a superhero.

WONDER WOMAN

Wonder Woman: writer Greg Rucka and artists Nicola Scott and Liam Sharp. This series will feature two storylines with Sharp illustrating contemporary adventures and Scott working on ‘Year One’ stories. It will ship twice monthly starting in May.

Trinity: writer/artist Francis Manapul and artist Clay Mann. Starring Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman. Manapul will be taking on both writing and art duties while Mann will provide additional art.

OTHER COMICS

Suicide Squad: writer Rob Williams and artists Jim Lee and Philip Tan. The line-up of the Suicide Squad is similar to the feature film coming out in August with Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Deadshot, Katana and Rick Flagg a part of the team with additional members to be announced later. It will ship twice monthly starting in August.

Green Arrow: writer Ben Percy and artists Otto Schmidt and Juan Ferreyra. It will ship twice monthly starting in June.

Deathstroke: writer Christopher Priest and artists Carlo Pagulayan, Igor Vitorino and Felipe Watanabe. It will ship twice monthly starting in August.

Teen Titans: writer Ben Percy and artist Jonboy Meyers. This series will show Damien Wayne, the current Robin and Bruce Wayne’s son, attempting to lead the Teen Titans.

Blue Beetle: writer Keith Giffen and artist Scott Kolins.

Hellblazer: writer Simon Oliver and artist Moritat.

As well as those titles, two more that were named but have not yet been given creative teams are Justice League of America and Super Sons. The latter series will apparently feature the sons of Batman and Superman coming together to protect the world. Justice League of America will ship twice monthly starting in September.
