Dead Rising movie in development at Legendary Pictures

June 20, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Legendary Pictures has announced that it has sold domestic rights to a feature-length movie adaptation of Capcom’s zombie video game franchise Dead Rising to Crackle, making the studio’s first release from its digital division.

The Dead Rising movie is being executive produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers), while Tim Carter (Mortal Kombat: Legacy) will script and produce alongside Tomas Harlan. The official press release describes the movie as the following:

“Dead Rising takes place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection from spreading, the four leads must evade infection while also pursuing the root of the epidemic — with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy.”

“We are excited to be working with Legendary and Lorenzo, who have both created immersive properties for fans around the world,” said Carter and Harlan. “As avid players of the game, we’re extremely thrilled to take the popular franchise that millions have embraced and give them the opportunity to experience it on a new platform.”
