Disney rebooting Home Alone, Night at the Museum, and Cheaper by the Dozen for Disney+

August 7, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Disney has announced they will be re-imagining several movie franchises for their upcoming streaming service, Disney+. During Disney’s Q3 earnings call, CEO Bob Iger confirmed Disney will be rebooting Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Cheaper by the Dozen, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid for the direct-to-consumer service.

CEO Bob Iger says Home Alone, Night at the Museum and Diary of a Wimpy Kid will be "reimagined" for Disney+.

“We’re also focused on leveraging Fox’s vast library of great titles to further enrich the content mix on our [direct to consumer] platforms,” said Iger on the call, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fox’s three-film Night at the Museum is the biggest franchise of the bunch with the series grossing $540 million domestically, while the Home Alone theatrical trilogy grossed $490 million, and the Wimpy Kid movies earned $186.4 million.

In addition to the rebooted content, Disney+ will also feature original content from both the Star Wars and Marvel franchises with titles such as The Mandalorian, WandaVision, Falcon and Winter Soldier, Loki, What If?, and Hawkeye series launching within the next two years.

Disney+ is set to debut on 12th November with a monthly subscription of $6.99. With the D23 expo a few weeks away, will we see Disney+ take centre stage with an extensive slate of titles coming to the streaming service at launch?
