Disney Speedstorm season 2 to have Toy Story theme

June 1, 2023 by Harrison Abbott

When Disney Speedstorm debuted in its current early-access form, we put together a wish list of movies, TV shows, and theme park attractions that we thought would be a good fit for the racing title.

A blue-sky exercise, it was comprised of ragtag franchises that didn’t really have a cat in hell’s chance of ever being selected, if we’re being brutally honest. Due to their relatively niche appeal, or the fact that there are simply bigger fish to fry in the Disney Vault, we knew that our candidates were unlikely inclusions, but wanted to give them a shout-out nonetheless. You know, underdog IPs like Tron and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

In the list, we also noted that there was a distinct lack of Pixar at launch, with the Monsters Inc. crew alone flying the flag for that particular brand. Of course, it was only inevitable that developer Gameloft would seek to plug this conspicuous gap before long and, as it turns out, that’s going to be the focus of their first major update.

It has just been announced that Season 2 of Disney Speedstorm will commence on Tuesday, June 13th and that it will be themed around Toy Story.

While we had our fingers crossed for a less obvious Pixar property, like Inside Out, we always knew deep down that this would be a top priority. After all, it’s one of the studio’s most lucrative assets, with two films in the billion-dollar club, dedicated rides (or sometimes even whole lands) at every single Disney resort, and a host of eminently marketable characters.

Speaking of which, the Season 2 update — entitled “To Infinity and Beyond” — will add a quartet of iconic faces to the Speedstorm roster. Woody and Jessie will be representing the roundup gang, while Buzz Lightyear and Bo Peep will also be suiting up in their racing gear.

There’s no word yet on how these newbies will play (in terms of their respective classes or special abilities) but we do know that Andy’s Room will be introduced alongside them as an additional track. Which is certainly welcome news, given that it doesn’t take very long for you to get sick of cycling through Speedstorm’s small rotation of existing courses.

In addition to the Toy Story gang, Season 2 will also throw the vintage Steamboat Mickey and Pete characters into the mix —  in all their black and white glory —  as well as a couple of exciting new game modes.

Disney Speedstorm’s “To Infinity and Beyond” Season will launch on the 13th of June. The game itself is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and PC.
