Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor Adventures to introduce two new companions alongside Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor

April 17, 2026 by Andrew Newton

A brand-new audio drama miniseries for the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) begins this November with The Eighth Doctor Adventures: New Pathways. This new series will feature six full-cast episodes across two box set releases, and is available to pre-order now from the Big Finish website.

Not long after the Eighth Doctor first regenerated, the TARDIS received a rather unusual call, one that has perplexed the Doctor for many years. Now, while travelling with faithful companion Alfie, can the Doctor finally get to the bottom of this mystery? And just who is Chase Moyo, and what new pathways will she take the TARDIS crew down?

Two new companions join the Doctor in this upcoming miniseries. The first is Alfie, played by Sam Stafford, who is from London in the mid-21st century. He’s a gentle giant with a heart of gold who has been travelling with the Doctor for some time when they encounter Matilda ‘Chase’ Moyo (played by Natalie Gumede). Chase is an adventure lover who, due to her career in the movie industry drying up, has moved back up north to a dull call centre job. She thinks her life is completely dull, that is, until the day her phone accidentally connected to the TARDIS.

Natalie Gumede and Sam Stafford.

The three episodes in The Eighth Doctor Adventures: New Pathways are:

  • Chase by Alan Ronald
  • Magic by Katharine Armitage
  • Blast from the Past by Robert Valentine

In December 2026, Big Finish will release the second of the two box sets in the miniseries with the following adventures:

  • The Junction by Helen Goldwyn
  • Yesterday Dies Today by Alfie Shaw
  • Matilda by Alan Ronald

The Eighth Doctor Adventures: New Pathways will arrive in November and is available to pre-order now for £19.99 for the download or £24.99 for the download and limited collector’s edition CD. Alternatively, both box sets in the miniseries can be pre-ordered in a multibuy bundle for £38 for the download, or £47 for the downloads and limited collector’s editions.
